The King George's Medical University is a tertiary care hospital and teaching institute. This hospital complex covers an area of 88,000 square meters with a conglomeration of buildings, housing, various departments and their respective wards having a total of 2,424 beds. It provides specialty services in all branches of medicine. Departments are divided into two parts as the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Dental Sciences. More than a quarter of our university departments have various specialty units for patient care and management.
The Department of Pediatrics has a 315-bed capacity with usual care units as well as neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. At present, the department has ten faculty members headed by Prof. Shally Awasthi. All the faculty members are involved in research, training, and teaching activities. The annual intake for the MD course is 26 students. Apart from MD students, the department also annually enrolls PhD candidates.
There are in-house diagnostic facilities with state-of-the-art contemporary instruments in the departments of Microbiology, Pathology and Biochemistry, along with an Advance Center for research in genetics, proteomics, and in molecular work.
