The Virology Laboratory (LIM-52) is located at the Tropical Medicine Institute of Sao Paulo Medical School (IMT-SP). Inaugurated in 1959, IMT-SP conducts translational research on parasites, bacteria, viruses, fungi, the genetics of microorganisms, immunology, and public health through the work of its approximately 30 active scientists.
The Virology Laboratory covers an area of approximately 600 m2 spread over two floors. Our facilities include rooms for washing and assembling of materials, extraction room I, extraction room II, an NB2 room, freezer rooms, pre-PCR room I, pre-PCR room II, a post-PCR room, a serology room. We also have an office area with spaces for teachers and researchers, a student and intern room, a secretariat, and a lunch room.
The Virology Laboratory has a wide range of equipment, including: refrigerators, freezers (-20ºC and -80ºC), nanodrop, Qubit fluorimeter, exhaust hood, refrigerated bench centrifuges, non-refrigerated bench-top centrifuges; biological safety booths, laminar flows, non-refrigerated mini-centrifuge, water bath with and without stirring, dry bath, solution stirrers, conventional thermocyclers, real-time thermocyclers, image capture system, ultra-pure water production system, electrophoresis systems, cell counter, microplate reader, microplate washer, microscopes, CO2 greenhouses, conventional greenhouses, FilmArray® PCR Multiplex System, and automated extraction EasyMag. This equipment has been acquired with resources from several sources.
