- Clinical and pathogenetic values of morphometric indices of peripheral blood erythrocytes, systems of lipid peroxidation, and antioxidative protection in children with viral hepatitis.
- The recovery of children with acute laryngotracheitis, acute bronchitis, and pneumonia, as a function of the level of damage to the respiratory tract.
- Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in children with acute intestinal infections of bacterial and viral etiology.
- Relapses of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients from a large industrial city (research as part of the National TB Program in Ukraine).
- The immunobiological characteristics and biochemical markers in new TB cases for the prediction of outcomes of tuberculosis.
- The efficacy of chemotherapy in patients with multidrug-resistant (MDR) destructive tuberculosis.
- The study of congenital viral infections caused by cytomegalovirus and herpes types 1 and 2 in children of early age. We confirmed these infections based on the results of the molecular detection of viruses isolated from blood, urine, and conjunctiva, along with the analysis of the pre- and postnatal history of children.
Our current research deals with the diagnosis of tuberculosis in children and adolescents exposed to a family source of infection. Two hundred and fifty children and adolescents with TB, aged from 4 to 18 years, were examined in the Pediatric Department of the Zaporozhye Regional TB Dispensary from 2010 to 2012. To establish the early diagnosis of TB in children exposed to these risk factors, a new skin test has been applied to 91 patients since March 2103. It is a recombinant tuberculosis allergen based on the M. tuberculosis–specific proteins, ESAT-6 and CFP-10, produced by genetically-modified strains of Escherichia coli.
The laboratory is also involved in several public health programs aimed at eliminating the indigenous transmission of polio, rubella, and measles in the world and at conducting the surveillance of infectious diseases, such as influenza, and acute respiratory tract infections.
The Virology Laboratory deploys the industry standard technologies, including Real Time PCR, multiplex PCR, ELISA automated processing, and various cell culture-based techniques.
